【イベントレポート】みんなのどうぐ vol.0(かぐこラボ) 第1回 〜素材〜

[Event Report] Everyone's Tool vol.0 (Kaguko Lab) Part 1 ~Materials~

A manufacturing project that I have always wanted to do with users. I will be able to co-host with Kagure-san. (Additional note: Therefore, the name is "Kaguko Lab". After this, it will be renamed as everyone's item in Pint!)

It is a new form of manufacturing that involves planning a single product together with general users.

The main theme of this project is to learn about fuki-lacquer ware, follow the path from the material, invite craftsmen, and spend several months working together to create one piece of lacquerware.

Everyone will think and plan a palm-sized bowl that you want to use every day, and have a craftsman make it.

The first of the five sessions has finally started.

Date: Saturday, July 12, 2014 11:00-12:30 Location: Kagure Omotesando

The first theme is about the starting point, "materials". Since it is lacquerware, it is about "wood". I am very excited because I rarely have the opportunity to go back to this point when planning miscellaneous goods and tableware.

7 participants. Everyone had a soft atmosphere, and even though we were meeting for the first time, the atmosphere was friendly from the start. Some people were absent today due to urgent business, but these members will continue to make potteries together for the remaining four times. I'm looking forward to it.
This event is neither a lecture nor a workshop. In order not to become a classroom lecture, I focused on "feeling" the "material" rather than "knowing" it.

First, let's take a quick look at the history of Japanese wood. In Japan, trees have long been a familiar and abundant resource, and have been used for various purposes such as food (nuts), tools, and construction. There are many types of trees, each with their own characteristics. We lined up samples of this wood and touched and felt the differences in wood texture, wood grain, color, weight, and hardness.

Even with blocks of wood of the same size, the difference in weight between the lightest and the heaviest wood is nearly three times. The characteristics of wood such as weight and hardness are ascertained, and wood is used in the most suitable way. It is exactly the right person in the right place.
Next is wooden products as "tools". It is one of the folklore classification methods, but we divided it into 5 categories according to technology and saw it with samples. You can also touch the real thing here.

Add Pint! and Kagure's product lineup and you have everything. I don't think there are many places where you can see or be guided by classification in a list. While introducing the history of wooden tools, I touched the real thing and thought about how it was born and how it was made.
The wiping lacquer ware made in this project is a technique called "Hikimono". We will share the limitations of manufacturing, such as this feature, manufacturing restrictions, and the time it takes, and will continue in the next second installment.

The second is about "form". Everyone thinks of a palm-sized container that they want to use every day. Not only wood, but also pottery that you usually use, and consider the shape of the pottery while looking at the pottery made of other materials.

I can't wait for the second time in two weeks.
