[Event Announcement/Recruitment] Everyone's Item 2 Recruiting participants

Shimada Cutlery Factory

This is the next recruitment for "Everyone's Tool".

It will be held in Yamagata Prefecture for the first time after leaving Tokyo.

Unlike the past, it is not a wooden vessel, but a hammered knife.

"Everyone's Tool" is a project of manufacturing where users plan products while learning and knowing about manufacturing.

By doing so, we believe that traditional industries can create products that are truly suitable for today's lifestyles.

Product planning is a user (living hand) who knows the current life.
Planned and managed by Pint! and Tohoku University of Art and Design.
In this team, we think of one product and produce it.

The products made here are not finished once made, but will be continuously sold through Pint!

This time, we will make a small kitchen knife made from Yamagata Uchihamono.
The theme is "a small kitchen knife that can be used every day".

Yamagata has a long history of cutting blades.
It started with the production of weapons and farming tools about 660 years ago and has been passed down from generation to generation.
This time, we will ask Mr. Shimada of Shimada Uchihamono Seisakusho to make it.
He is the only cutlery craftsman who can complete the entire process from the blade to the handle and still has a shop.

A kitchen knife that you always use when cooking.
It's something you use every day, but I don't think there are many people who are conscious of using it properly or choosing carefully according to how to use it.

This may be due to changes in lifestyles, as well as the emergence of cheap kitchen knives through large-scale production, creating a situation in which this is sufficient.
Even if you say to choose, there are many styles that choose the type and size from ready-made products.

Mr. Shimada told me about the history and types of knives, and I was surprised at the depth of knives.
Differences in materials, differences in shape and size, how to deal with cutlery.
When I actually used it in my daily life, I felt that not only was it sharp, but I also felt that a new world of fun and ease of use opened up by using it properly according to what I was cutting and how I lived.

There are many things about traditional craftsmanship nearby that are overlooked due to lack of knowledge.

First of all, let's learn together how to make knives, learn the basics and features, and then come up with a kitchen knife that fits your current life.
Mr. Shimada, a craftsman, is also looking forward to the birth of a new knife from the perspective of the user (living person) in this "Everyone's Tool".

We are looking forward to your participation.
