Coffee Server White Yakijime

A coffee server from the Yakijime Coffee Series.

The material is called stoneware, and it is intermediate between pottery and porcelain. It is denser and stronger than pottery, and has almost no water absorption. When struck, it makes a metallic sound similar to porcelain, but the firing temperature is lower than that of porcelain and it is not translucent. The surface is smooth, but there are fine unevenness on the surface, just between pottery and porcelain. The white here uses clay that reproduces the white mud (white with a tinge of greige), which was often used in Banko ware from the Taisho period to the Showa period. There are two colors, "black" and "white".

The color is not the glaze, but the color of the clay and firing. By using it, the luster and depth of color will increase. This is also one of the pleasures of using it.

Since each one is molded by hand, there are individual differences in the surface of the potter's wheel and the shape of the spout. Because it is a simple shape, it can also be used as a jug or a vase.

Produced by Nankei Touen, a kiln in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture that specializes in teapots and tea utensils. Due to the nature of the clay used, it has excellent heat resistance, and teapots and earthenware pots that take advantage of its heat resistance are popular.
