Server Spoon Teak｜Oil and Beeswax Finish

Server spoon made of solid teak. I will introduce it in detail below, but it is the shape and use between the server spoon and the ladle character.

The surface of the spoon is carefully carved without thickness, and the tip is slightly wide and slightly curved. It is made based on the scoop character, imagining takikomi gohan. The middle part of the face is not shaped like a spoon with a raised rim, so rice and solid foods are more suitable than scooping up juicy foods.

The traces scraped by hand with a chisel, You can feel the warmth of handwork . By shaving it by hand, it can be finely shaped with a subtle angle, creating a shape that is easy to hold. The fine unevenness of the shaving marks gives a comfortable feeling that fits comfortably in your hand. The tip of the handle has a decorative carving.

Although it has a simple shape, both the spoon surface and the handle are carved out by hand, so they are all composed of curved lines. It has a gentle appearance and is easy to hold and balances the overall weight, so it is more comfortable to use.

The finish is oil and beeswax. I apply organic hemp seed oil followed by beeswax cream. The “Sukueru Wooden Spatula”, which is made from the same three species of trees, is unpainted, but compared to that, the oil and beeswax blend together, giving it a darker color.

Produced by Makoto Miyazaki, who makes woodwork in Osaka. He is a creator who does really detailed and careful work, such as manual shaving and finishing painting. They mainly produce small items rather than furniture, and they pay close attention to the ease of use as tools, making wooden tools that you will want to touch and use every day. The marks left by chisels remain and the warmth of handwork is felt, but the simple shape and elaborate finish create a very pleasant balance.

There are three types of tree species, from left to right in the photo, which are ash, cherry, and teak. The weight also varies depending on the individual, more than the difference in tree species. ( Please note that even with the same tree species, there are individual differences in both color and grain. )
