ジビエ革のものづくり(鹿)2回目 1/4

Gibier leather craftsmanship (deer) 2nd 1/4

Introducing Atsushi Takamizawa's craftsmanship, which mainly introduces framepouch.

Natural wild birds and beasts by hunting, so-called gibier. It seems that most of the skin is thrown away even though it spreads as meat. A person who tans and uses gibier hides purchased directly from hunters, and who makes things with a strong desire to "take life."

Wild deer and bears live in the forests of Japan. Leather that tells you about the hunting season and region. Tannin tanning. dyed black. Wrinkles and small scratches that can be avoided under normal circumstances, but are difficult to handle as a product. Remnant patchwork after cutting. How to use up all the leather of one animal. Original hardware. Finishing treatment of metal fittings that allows you to enjoy the same aging as leather.

It's simply beautiful without saying anything, but behind it lies Mr. Takamizawa's thoughts and unusual craftsmanship.

We purchase one leather and handle it in the form of making it using that leather.

January 2019 is the first time. At this time, a deer (January 2019, Wakasa Town, Tottori Prefecture) and a bear (January 2019, Iwaizumi Town, Iwate Prefecture). Due to the convenience of the product and the leather, the initial delivery + additional patchwork was completed in two laps.

This article is the second time (January 2020). After making it, I checked the scraps and thought about the product, and I used up most of the leather in a total of 4 laps. I will introduce it in four articles.

General leather products purchase leather from a leather shop. Although we know the tanning and processing production areas, it seems that there are many cases where it is difficult to determine the region when tracing back to the raw skins. In the case of Mr. Takamizawa, he purchases directly from hunters, so he knows the hunting season and region, and it is written on the tag. The skin is tanned with tannin, and this deerskin is dyed with sumi ink to become "leather".

We select one cow from Mr. Takamizawa's leather stock and request production with that leather.

This introductory series will guide you through the production of deerskin in January 2020, but the first leather photo was taken in January 2019 last year, as I wasn't able to take it this year. Deer, hunting areas, tanning and dyeing specifications are the same. This is the initial state of "leather," which is tanned with tannins, dyed with ink, and used as a material for products.

By the way, animals, especially wild animals, naturally have wounds. I think that leather product makers use it while guiding them to some extent, but Mr. Takamizawa uses it more thoroughly than the general standard. Of course, avoiding places and holes that hinder use, it is sufficient as a product (the details are really clean and beautiful). However, since these scratches are difficult to treat as a "product" to be sold in ordinary distribution, they are often removed because they dislike the risk of being treated as defective.

Using this deerskin, we had you make four points of photograph this time.

About 70-80% of the leather area was used in this production. In general, from this leftover, while leaving large scraps for small items to make, it seems that many of the hard-to-use edges, small scraps, and wounds are discarded at this point.

A large size product is completed in the first round. The gusset and patchwork are good, and there is a feeling that it is already full, but from the second round onwards, Takamizawa-san's style is at its peak.
